I just heard that the splash pad at Swasey Field park had opened for the summer, so with the hot weather we had to make a trip. The splash pad is open 10 AM to 8 PM. This was our second time coming to this park, and I had forgotten just how fun it is.

We parked in the small parking lot near the playground. It’s a short walk from the parking lot to the playground and splash pad, so it was nice that there was a path you could follow which was away from the street. There were trees lining the path and also a few benches. This is a good sized park with lots of small trees; my daughter thought it was really beautiful.

We got there a few minutes before 10:00, and there was a worker there making sure the splash pad turned on and was working. My daughter wanted to go to the splash pad area right away. This area is so much fun and really is perfect on a hot day. There are lots of different features. The water isn’t always going. There’s a station with a button that can turn the water on, and only a couple of the structures spray water at a time.

We loved the giant flower and the rainbow structure that sent out a mist of water. Some of the other children had brought buckets and toy watering cans with them, which was a great idea. You can still have a lot of fun without any toys, just running around and trying to find where the water will come from next.

The splash pad area is set up in a half circle and it is bordered by a stone wall around most of it. The wall is the perfect height for adults to sit on. The splash pad is in direct sun. Just outside the wall, there are some trees providing some small areas of shade.

We took a break from the splash pad to check out the playground. There’s a path right from the splash pad to the playground which is nice. The playground area has two structures, a smaller one for younger kids and a bigger one for older kids. My four year old usually likes the challenge of the bigger structures, but she found this one to be too much of a challenge. This structure is definitely not geared for her age and it has more advanced climbing structures than most of the playgrounds we have been to, so I think older kids could really enjoy it. The smaller structure was perfect for her.

There was a swingset which had two big kid swings on it, though it looks like it would usually have four swings.

The playground area is also in the direct sun. When we were there, there was one area of shade along the wall from one of the trees. The playground area is also surrounded by a stone wall, which has built in bench seating along a couple of the sides.

There is a large field area and it was all nicely maintained. There are a couple of baseball fields and a basketball court. There also looked to be walking paths along the back of the splash pad and playground area.

I didn’t notice a bathroom while we were there, but when we were leaving I saw a small building near the road between the two baseball fields which turned out to be the bathroom. It’s just a short walk from the playground and splash pad.

We really enjoyed our visit and this is a park that you could definitely make a day out of if you pack a picnic lunch!
