Rinnovo Salon Owner Jessica Waitt

Merrimack Valley Macaroni Kid: After all these years in the hair industry, who and what inspires you the most?
Jessica Waitt: I believe my constant inspiration is my family. My husband supports everything I do, my kids give me a reason to do it. It’s not because of my kids that I wouldn’t do this, it’s because of them that I did! Little eyes are always looking at me, and if that’s not an inspiration to follow your dreams, I don’t know what is!

Merrimack Valley Macaroni Kid: What hair tip do you always swear by no matter what hair texture you’re working with?
Jessica Waitt: My one hair tip for any hair type would be to find the right products that will give you the results you want. There is something out there for everyone, and it’s up to your stylist to help you find what that is!!

Merrimack Valley Macaroni Kid: It can be very scary trusting a new stylist, what advice do you have for someone looking for a new salon?
Jessica Waitt: My advice for someone looking for a new stylist or trying a new place would be to bring pictures!! Look for how someone consults with you about what you want. If it’s unrealistic, good stylists will tell you that in the nicest way possible, but also do everything in their power to get you there! Speak up, we want to know when you don’t like something because you are our walking billboard! If you walk in the door and don’t get a good vibe immediately, then you’ll know you’re not at the right place! Going to a salon shouldn’t be scary, or intimidating, it should be friendly and comfortable, go to the people that make you feel just that!

Merrimack Valley Macaroni Kid: In what ways do you and your team stay on top of the new trends?
Jessica Waitt: I try and stay on top of the trends by constantly learning! This industry is ever-changing and evolving. You can never be too good or know it all, and because of this we are always taking classes and going to events to learn what is up and coming!

Merrimack Valley Macaroni Kid: Of all the looks you’ve created, what’s the most requested?
Jessica Waitt: The most requested service is definitely color! We have so many people looking for that custom balayage now! It’s been a hot trend, but now it is much more tailored to the person’s face, hair type, hairline, and can really be contoured to the person’s liking!

Merrimack Valley Macaroni Kid: After many years of working with one salon, was it hard to walk away from that and open your own?
Jessica Waitt: It was for sure hard to walk away from something I had known for so many years. I had a comfort zone, support system, and many clients there! I knew there was a risk of losing clients, and that security, but there were too many things that were pushing me in the direction of opening my own place that I couldn’t ignore it! I truly appreciate and love my previous salon for all the years experience and knowledge, it made me the stylist I am today. At some point, I knew that if I went with my gut and my heart, it would end up ok for me.

Merrimack Valley Macaroni Kid: Tell us about your team and why you chose them to be your side.
Jessica Waitt:  I chose each person I have hired thus far based on their drive. I saw that they had experience and it was also an immediate connection I had with them. It was like in their interviews we just could “talk hairdresser” and we understood each other. I have seen nothing but all of them come to bat for me, and do whatever we needed as a whole salon to open and go public! They really are my backbone, as the clients are our backbone and they realize and really understand that. I see nothing but a bright future of happy heads for all of the Rinnovo Team!
